For over 30 years, the Rockland Youth Dance Ensemble has presented its’ full length ballet performances of “The Nutcracker” to thousands of patrons in and around Rockland County. Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” was first performed by the Company in 1981.
RYDE performers are students of classical ballet who are cast, through audition, alongside performers from the professional dance and theatre worlds.
One of the many aims of RYDE is to bring a quality production of this time-honored classic to the tri-state community. Each year, an evening performance is offered to senior citizens and the physically and mentally challenged residents of Rockland County free of charge. This “Special Audience Performance” is attended by over 800 patrons each year, and is made possible, in part through the fundraising efforts of RYDE’s Board of Directors. This, as well as performances at Helen Hayes Hospital, provide opportunities for our young performers to give back to their communities in a meaningful way.
Opportunities for Girl Scout troops and special audiences to attend special performances of “The Nutcracker” occur annually. For information on hew to arrange group tickets, please CALL 845-624-RYDE (7933).
Another objective of RYDE is to provide young dancers and choreographers with a quality professional vehicle within which they can perform and present their work.Over the years, guest artists such as Ethan Stiefel, Sacha Radetsky, Craig Salstein, Roman Zhurbin, Bill Hastings, Terri Klausner, Milan Misko and Dartanian Reed have joined RYDE’s cast in presenting “The Nutcracker” to audiences of all ages.
